Who are you following?

11th June 2009 by Claire Hill

In today's world people follow all sorts of things. E.g. movie stars, sportspeople, pop singers, etc. These people want to be like the person they are following. Sometimes they have extreme makeovers so they look like them because there is something about that person they like. This is not something new, people have been following others for centuries.

I believe that Matthew 4:19 is one of the most important pieces of Scripture in the whole Bible. These are Jesus words - "Come follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Notice the words, If you follow me, you will become 'fishers of men' (F.O.M). The mandate goes out from Jesus, "Follow me". If you follow me you will end up becoming a F.O.M no matter what your personality is like.

Jesus says, if you are following me:

  • I will make you
  • I will form you
  • I will structure you into an F.O.M

F.O.M is not a spiritual gift but rather a commandment. There is a difference between meeting Jesus and following Jesus. A lot of people in the BIble were healed and touched by Jesus but didn't necessarily follow Him. There are many who attend Church but are not necessarily following Jesus. There are many who go to conferences but are not necessarily following Jesus. Jesus says, I invite you to follow me so that you can become a F.O.M. So we have to understand that there is a difference in meeting Jesus and following Him.

If you have never encountered Jesus you will never be an F.O.M so my question to you is - "Who are you following?"
