You may have heard that our nation is heading for a recession. Our world is facing a global economic crisis. People are losing jobs, homes are being repossessed by the banks, and many businesses are going bankrupt.
I wondered if or when this whole crisis was going to affect me. You see someone is my family has been laid off work. Some young people I know are finding it difficult to find work after finishing school and uni.
With all this happening around me I wondered why I wasn't as affected as maybe I thought I should be. Now I am not down playing the seriousness of the financial crisis but I can control my personal response to it.
I was reminded in my devotions that this world is not my home. I'm just a passing through. My values are not the world's values. My trust is in God alone. And no matter what happens in my finances I know that God will take care of me. I don't need to worry about where my next meal is. I don't need to worry about what I will wear. I don't need to worry about tomorrow it will worry for itself.
Even when it seems hopeless I simply need to do what I can. I do what is in my sphere of control. It's a choice. We choose our response to what is going on around us. We don't need to worry - so choose not to worry. Place your confidence in God and let his perspective on life draw you through.
"Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things, will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
-Matt 6:25-26, 33-34
So if you watch the news or hear your parents talking about the financial crisis we are in, be encouraged. Our father in heaven will look after our needs, we don't need to worry. God is in control. Pursue him rather than money. Pursue him and find security in troubled waters. If you want to read more about finding security in God read Matt 7:24-27. It talks about wise and foolish builders.
Till next time
Cheers
