Marshmallow shoe-tying game

Works best...

Indoors, as an icebreaker.

It's a pretty solid relationship-building ice-breaker, so be creative with getting your youth paired up with someone they don't know.

What you need

  • 1 marshmallow for every 2 people in attendance
  • Everyone needs to be wearing enclosed, lace-up shoes!

The game

Get your youth paired off with someone who has a matching or similar shoe size.

Pairs must place a marshmallow between their foreheads. While keeping the marshmallow in place, they must take off their shoes and put on the other player's shoes - including tieing up the shoelaces! If at any time the marshmallow is dropped or dislodged, the pair must start over from the beginning.

First team to finish wins!

The video below is a bit hard to follow but gives you some idea of the game.

Other notes...

Strive to get youth matched up with someone they don't know well. It's a great game for getting people talking and interacting with new people, and for helping fringe kids make meaningful connections.

Obviously having shoes with laces is really important, so this is probably a game best reserved for the colder areas or colder times of year. If you play this game in summer, you'll have too many youth showing up wearing sandals or thongs!

It's probably best to stick with guy-guy and girl-girl pairs.
