Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo

Works best...

Indoors or outdoors, with a medium to large sized group (20+ people).

What you need

Ideally a basketball court or something similar, but you can mark out a similar sized playing field using witches hats or other markers. Depending on how many people you have playing, shorten or lengthen the playing area to keep the group reasonably close together.

The game

Split your group into two even teams, and position the teams in either half of the playing area.

For each round, choose one person from each team to be the 'invader'. When you call 'go', the invader runs into the opposing team's half and tries to tag as many opposing players as possible. All the tagged players must then switch over to the other team.

Sounds a bit simple right? Well wait, there's more...

  • The invaders must shout 'doo-doo-doo-doo-doo' for the entire time they are in opposing territory.
  • The invader only gets one breath. If they take a breath while in opposing territory, they forfeit their go and must join the other team.
  • If for any reason the invader stops shouting while in opposing territory, they forfeit their turn and must join the other team.
  • If any defenders step out of the playing area, they must switch to the other team.
  • The invader MUST make it back to their own half in order to complete their turn. Once they return to their own half, their turn is over. If they don't get at least one finger back into their own half, their 'tags' don't count!
  • The opposing team can restrain the invader using whatever techniques are deemed 'reasonable' by the referee.

Unfortunately, there's no video clip for this one! Use your imagination!

Other notes...

You can have an invader from both teams running at the same time, but often alternating from one team to the other works better as the game is easier to follow and also gives a chance for teams to have a breather.

If your group is quite large, you can have multiple invaders from the same team working together.

Spice things up by adding 'safe' obstacles such as gym mats to the playing field (nothing hard that is likely to result in an injury!)

Have a look at your playing area and make an honest assessment of the dangers, risks, and probability of someone hurting themselves. Safety is your responsibility!
