The Pole Game

Works best...

Indoors or outdoors, with a group (or groups) of 10-15 people.

What you need

  • A long pole (a couple of wrapping paper tubes taped together should be fine).
  • Some way of making the pole remain upright and stable (Blu-Tack works well if you're inside on a hard surface).

Alternatively, you can also play the game using a long piece of rope instead of the above equipment. More on that below.

The game

The objective is to pull, push, and drag other people into the pole, eliminating them from the game.

All players must hold hands (a forearm grip works best) to form a circle. The circle then twists and turns in order to try and force someone into the pole. When someone touches the pole they are out. They must leave the circle, and a smaller circle is formed.

If at any time the circle is broken, then both people who were responsible for the break are out.

As usual, check out the video clip below for a demo!

Other notes...

You can also play 'The Hole Game', where instead of a pole you use a rope to make a circle on the ground (about 1.5-2metres across). Anyone who touches the rope or who steps into the 'hole' is out.

If you're using a pole, make sure it's not too heavy and not too solid. You don't want anyone to get bruised from running into it.
