Works best...

With any number of people in any environment. Ideal as part of a mini-olympics or similar.

What you need

  • You need people who wear shoes
  • Some way to mark a spot on the ground (electrical tape or a piece of string or rope)

The game

This game is similar in concept to lawn bowls.

Mark a spot or an area on the ground. Position your first player a suitable distance away from the marked area, facing in the opposite direction. The players then take it in turns to throw their shoes backwards over their shoulders to see who can get closest to the marked area. Check out the YouTube clip below for a demonstration!

Other notes...

Obviously, the further you have to throw, the more difficult the game is. Vary the length to match the skill and competitiveness of your players.

This game is a great opportunity to build relationships - the game allows everyone to be involved, but there will be heaps of time between turns for leaders and youth to mingle and chat with each other.

It's probably good to have some fun, energetic music pumping in the background so that the atmosphere doesn't fall flat.

Some good prizes will help raise the intensity a bit!
