I'm dreaming of a white Christmas...

25th December 2008

Have you ever dreamt of having a white Christmas... you know, where you wake up in the morning, throw on your uggies and dressing gown while trying to find another log for the roaring fire before you have fresh ham off the bone on your warm, thick toast... then you get ready to go outside to throw snowballs, make snow angels and a snowman... then you meet with the neighbours kids to have toboggan races down the street and then come inside again for hot chocolate and ginger-bread men... NO?  I know I have, and so have many others...

But I also know of many who dream of just having space to celebrate Christmas... time to see family and friends without the fights and arguments... the joy of actually receiving a present for a change instead of a black eye or abuse... there are so many Aussies who don't enjoy Christmas at all because it reminds them  of just how lonely, unhappy, abused and sad they truly are...

Christmas is a time to celebrate the reality that God gave all of his creation a gift; not one of just joy; not one of just hope; not one of just freedom and peace; our creator God gave us a gift that includes all these things... and more... he gave us Jesus!

And with Jesus comes salvation too... freedom from sin, guilt and shame... why wouldn't you want to live that kind of life?

I watched my girls with delight this morning open their presents... I looked on as we went to church and celebrated Jesus with other Christians... I laughed as we had lunch with family we see only once a year and swim with their cousins... and I enjoyed sharing their gifts as we played more with them when we got home tonight...

But to all those who did not spend christmas in this way or in a way that was pleasant and memorable I pray these versus from scripture:

"The God who made the universe and everything in it, and who is Lord of heaven and earth... From one man he made every nation living on the entire surface of the earth, and he fixed the limits of their territories and the periods when they would flourish.  God did this so that people would look for him and perhaps reach out and find him although in fact, he is not far from each one of us, 'for in him we live and move and exist'." [Acts 17:26-28a]

May those who do not celebrate Jesus at Christmas find him... and may we that do know Jesus share him with more enthusiasm, joy and intention during this Christmas period and into the new year.

May God richly bless you and your families today as you celebrate the reality of jesus in youe world, and may you prosper in your ministry and service for God's Kingdom in 2009.

Ciao for now... Roscoe
