10th December 2008

As a teenager and even into my early twenties I had a deep desire to fit into the crowd and be popular. Part of this obsession drove me towards the need to build an empire of possessions. I always had to have the next best thing ... the latest gadget ... the best clothes.
One of my biggest obsessions was to have the latest sneakers. Actually I still have this obsession. I do buy them really cheap in the US though! I play basketball ... well I used to when I was younger, fitter and able to jump more than 2cm off the ground. I don't know what it was but whenever I played in new shoes I would feel 10 feet tall. I actually think I played better because I was wearing new shoes. I still couldn't dunk though!
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had a desire to fit in and be popular and have tried to keep up by having the latest things?
Don't fall into the trap like I did of thinking that possessions will bring you happiness. I thought this was how you measured your worth ... I thought my identity was in what I owned ... that was until I gave my life to Jesus.
Jesus rocked my world and turned my life upside down. I found my true identity and purpose in Him.
Check this out.
Read it again. Now read it again. Read it a third time.
Jesus doesn't offer a new pair of shoes, or a new mp3 player, or a new mobile phone or a new ???. He offers a new life! That is awesome! That is good news! That will turn your world upside down!
If you don't know Jesus, talk to someone and find out about him.
If you do know Jesus, get excited about him and the fact that you are a new creation.
Live life to the full and know that you are valued, loved and have a purpose in God.
Until next time.
