Bag of treasures

10th December 2008

Works best...

Inside, with either a large or a small group.

What you need

  • 1 bin/bucket/garbage bag for each team.
  • 1 spoon for each player (plastic spoons are fine)
  • A large floor covering
  • A large selection of canned food - the weirder or more disgusting, the better. You'll probaly need 1 can per person playing the game.

The game

This game is a food-based relay race, designed to be as disgusting as possible and maybe (hopefully!) trigger some messy results.

Ask for volunteers from your group to participate in this game. You can have 1 volunteer per can of food. Then split your volunteers into even teams.

Position your teams, the floor covering, and the bins/garbage bags together at one end of the room. Place your cans of food (with labels removed) at the opposite end of the room.

When the game starts, the first player from each team runs and picks up a can, then runs back to their bin/garbage bag, where they open their can and eat the contents as quickly as possible. When they've finished the whole can, they tag the next player on their team, who runs to get their own can, and so on until everyone from their team has participated. The first team to finish wins.

Check out the clip below for a demo!

Other notes...

Make sure your volunteers don't have any food allergies!

Works best if your cans have ring-pulls on the top - otherwise you'll need to ensure that each team has a can-opener as well.

You can either have a pile of cans and let people pick one randomly, or you can plan it out so that player 1 from each team eats the same thing, and player 2 from each team eats the same thing, and so on.

If you've got a large crowd spectating, taking photos of the food beforehand and putting the corresponding image up on the screen when people are eating will help your audience keep up with what's going on.
