How do you decide which topics to include?

We are basing our topics on a 4-year curriculum, consisting of 8 major themes.

These major themes include The Life Of Jesus, SAVE, GROW, SERVE, Healthy Relationships, Topical Issues and more.

We want to keep meeting during the school holidays but you haven't provided resources. What can we do?

For highschoolers: School holidays are great for relationship-building, so why not have fun with an activity that your whole group will enjoy. It could be playing sport, sleeping over, going to an event, or cooking a meal together.

Alternatively, your group could use their school holidays to get involved in serving the local community - ask your corps officer or youth leader if they know of anyone in the local area who could really benefit from a helping hand.

For adults: If your group meets year-round, see the following question for some ideas on what do to during weeks that we haven't provided resources for.

You've given us 10 weeks of resources, but this is an 11-week school term. What do we do in the extra week?

Here's some ideas to help you get the most out of an extra week:

  • Open question time. Ask your group to come prepared with any questions they have about life, faith, or the Bible, and let the group talk it out.
  • Invite a guest. Have someone come in and share their story and then answer questions from the group. Ideas for interesting guests include:
    • Your corps officer/church leader/church elder/youth pastor
    • A Salvation Army outreach/social program/welfare worker
    • A Christian who grew up in a different religion and then came to know Jesus
    • Someone who's been involved in cross-cultural or overseas ministry
    • Someone strong in a ministry that perhaps your group hasn't been exposed to before - perhaps someone with a strong evangelistic ministry, or a prophetic ministry, or a healing ministry.
  • Encouragement time. Take turns having someone as the 'focus' of your encouragement, making sure everyone has an opportunity to say something encouraging to every person.
  • 'I think God says...' Similar to an encouragement time, take turns having someone as the 'focus' as the group prays and asks God what he wants to say to that person.
  • 'Pay it forward...' Prepare something solely for the purpose of blessing someone else. Prepare a meal or cakes/muffins to hand out, or make some small gifts to give away.
  • Journalling. Select a couple of chapters of the Bible for your group to focus on. On their own, have your group members read the Scripture, write down something that stands out to them, and write down something they can do or something they can change based on what they've read. Once everyone is done, have some time for everyone to share back with the group.

Our church is still using TRIBE - do we have to change?

We're really excited about LIFE and believe that it's the best youth discipleship tool we have to offer corps and churches. If you're still using TRIBE and are unsure if you want to make the switch, we would recommend giving the LIFE resources a trial for at least a term so that you can make an informed decision.

If at the end of your trial you decide you'd rather keep using TRIBE, then we'll happily send you the previous versions in PDF format on CD - but the TRIBE resources will no longer be updated and no new editions will be published.

What has happened / is happening to Corps Cadets?

Just like its predecessor TRIBE, LIFE is a stand-alone discipleship resource. Some young people using LIFE may be enrolled as Corps Cadets, but it is not a prerequisite to joining a life group.

The option of enrolling as a Corps Cadet is still available to young people throughout The Salvation Army, under the guidance and direction of either their Corps Officer or Corps Cadet Counsellor.
