College Life

Training to be a Salvation Army officer is a challenging and exciting experience and your passion for following Jesus and learning about His Word and work in the world are part of the daily program. We look forward to working with you to develop you into who God has called you to be.
a) OVERVIEW OF OFFICER TRAINING PROGRAM
Everyday I get to learn more about God and myself and how we can better live life together. There is nothing better than that!
College is like a spiritual incubator – you can’t help but grow.
To successfully complete Officer Training, you’ll need to fulfill requirements in 3 key areas: Spiritual Formation; Ministry Formation; and Theological Formation.
Spiritual Formation: Growing one’s relationship and understanding of God through personal devotions, small groups and corporate worship.
Ministry Formation: Practical involvement and leadership development in order to minister in the various aspects of a Salvation Army Officer’s life.
Theological Formation: The academic side of Officer Training where, in the fulfilment of all subjects, one will receive a Diploma in Theology. (Note: This program may be adapted in special circumstances).
b) ACCOMMODATION
The Officer Training Program is a ‘live-in’ cadetship. Couples and families are provided with townhouse accommodation, and single cadets are provided a double room and bathroom in a shared living area.
c) CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
The Salvation Army recognises both men and women in its ministry. All cadets are involved in a full-time, equal opportunity training program. To enable both parents to enjoy and benefit from officer training, couples are encouraged to share child care and home duties.
CHILD CARE
SFOT Child Care Centre provides care for pre-school children between the hours of 8.30am and 3.30pm each weekday. It is licensed with the Department of Community Services and fulfils all legal requirements. Pre-school children of Cadets are cared for at no charge.
SCHOOLS
Schools are easily accessed from the Bexley North Campus with Bexley North Primary School (K-6), adjacent to Booth College. There are various high schools within a 10km radius. Kingsgrove High (co-ed)is the closest and most popular state school and St George Christian School (K-12) is only 15 minutes away.
