MATTHEW MOORE

If you’re wresting with the idea of becoming a Salvation Army officer, ask yourself one simple question: Do you have the desire to help people? For Matthew Moore, that is more than enough motivation. Matt concluded his Salvation Army officer training at the end of 2008, when he was commissioned as an officer in Brisbane. Reflecting on the experience of the last two years, Matthew says, “Training has been very exciting yet challenging, as it has developed me in my knowledge of God and my understanding of the Bible and how I can share these with others”.

A knack for speaking to people

When it comes to being of assistance to people in need, he enjoys nothing more than rolling up his sleeves and getting involved any way he can - whether it’s through his experience with young people, or using his knack to fix things - a talent he describes as “a great ministry tool”. However, there is another thing that inspires him too. “I can’t think of a better job than being able to speak to people about Jesus,” he says frankly. “In the back of my mind, I always knew that’s what I wanted to do.” Indeed, his calling was so clear to him he didn’t have to think about choosing between the Salvos and pursuing any other line of study. With his wife Emma, Matthew is now in the initial process of starting the work of The Salvation Army in Yeppoon, Queensland. This is an exciting time for Matthew and Emma and also for The Salvation Army as they work towards supporting this community both practically and spiritually as they plant a church and embrace the opportunities that arise from this mission.
