What’s the point of being a Christian?
I mean to say, can’t I live a happy life without God? I am at the moment, you know.
Good point. You probably are. So let’s start with a bit of a story. There was a young couple that had a dog, but because they didn’t have any fences they kept it chained at the kennel. The dog stayed chained like this, well loved and fed for a long while – until the day came when the fences were complete. So the couple let the dog off the chain, but call and coax as much as they liked, the dog wouldn’t come past the point where it thought that the chain would stop it.
You see, it is possible to be happy, and successful and all those things without being a Christian, but only to our limits as humans. Pretty soon we don’t expect any more.
Jesus came to let us off the chain. He came to give us so much more than we had come to expect. But we can’t begin to understand that until we are prepared to go past the limit of our chain.
That’s the hard part because we don’t really know what’s beyond that limit – until we have the faith to step over.
That’s what Christianity is all about. Having the courage to step past the limits we have always experienced, so that we can be part of a whole new world.
God created us in his likeness so that we could have a close relationship with Him. Jesus made that possible by becoming the bridge to God. Now its up to you. Do you have the courage to step past your safe limits and experience a whole new life?
