Edify Internship
The Edify Internship is one of The Salvation Army's newest cutting-edge initiatives, combining a gap-year program, a Cert-IV in Youth Work and a real-life Salvation Army urban centre into a 10-month experience that will change your life.
If you're looking to kick-start your career in professional youth work or are just wanting a completely new experience between high school and university, the Edify Internship is just what you're looking for.
A gap year that actually takes you somewhere...
Participants in the Edify Internship spend 10 months living, studying and volunteering at The Salvation Army's Streetlevel Centre, an urban church and welfare centre located in Surry Hills (inner-city Sydney).
You'll have the privilege of meeting, making friends with and serving some of Sydney's most disadvantaged and needy people, gaining insight into urban community life and being empowered and equipped to make a difference. Streetlevel isn't just a centre, it's a faith community, and you'll get to see how faith in Jesus is at the very heart of The Salvation Army.
During the 10 months you'll complete a nationally-recognised Cert-IV in Youth Work or Community Services, which means you'll be qualified for a job within a youth or community specific agency around the country upon completion. Plus, the experience you'll gain throughout the year will give you a headstart on other job seekers when it comes to your resume and job interviews.
Even if you're not planning on a career in youth or community work, the Edify Internship is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for personal growth that you won't find anywhere else. And unlike most gap year programs, the nationally-recognised qualification means you could be able to tap into financial support options such as Austudy
Edify also offers the Cert IV in Youth Work as a standalone course for those not interested in living on-site.
Cost
The Edify Internship costs $5,500, which includes your Cert IV course fee and also accommodation for the duration of your internship. Because of the Cert IV qualification, participants are also eligible to apply for an Austudy allowance to assist with day-to-day living expenses.
