Finance & Living Arrangements

Finance
The cost of the Edify Internship is $5500 (AUS). This amount is to be covered by the Intern in full by the completion of the course. At least $1000 of this amount must be paid either before or upon commencement of the Internship. Edify’s Accredited Training (which Interns participate in) is Austudy approved, for further information on this contact Centrelink on 13 24 90 (Youth and Student Services) or visit http://www.centrelink.gov.au/.
This cost includes your accredited training administration / enrolment / lecture fee as well as covering your living costs for the year, such as electricity, water and accommodation. This fee does not include required discipleship resources and text books you will need, nor does it completely cover all of the mission / conferences / events which you will participate in throughout the course of the year. These you will need to finance yourself.
Support will be given to all course participants in helping to raise this money if needed. We can also support you in applying for part-time employment in the local area if necessary. Please note that if you do want to look into part-time employment that the only days available for interns to work will be weekends.
Living Arrangements
Interns will live on-site at The Salvation Army’s Streetlevel Mission in Surry Hills, Sydney. There you will live alongside other Edify Interns and participate in the life of the Streetlevel church and community centre. This will be your home for the period of the Internship and will be the base from which you’ll live, study and serve. The advantage of this is that you will literally be on the doorstep of the church/community you’re plugged into and working with. The challenge will be developing the boundaries to live in such close proximity to the community and still find solitude and rest. Don’t worry we’ll provide you with specific training and support in this area!
Depending on the number of Interns in each course / year, you may have a private room to yourself OR you may be sharing with another Intern of the same gender. All of the accommodation provided contains bathroom, kitchen and laundry facilities. Interns are expected to pay for and cook their own meals, though they may shop within our affordable Streetlevel Food Market so as to lower food costs.
Though Interns are free (within reason) to come and go when they please, common courtesy means there may be certain times when people are expected to be home by as agreed upon by the house. The only exception to this would be special cases when the student may be up late for an Edify, Oasis or Streetlevel activity or event.
