Working With Children Checks

Everyone working in child related roles where they are directly working with children and youth as their main role MUST complete their relevant state Working With Children Check. This is a legal requirement according to the state/territory legislation. The following links to the relevant websites have the forms to be completed.

Queensland
This is the link to the home page for the Qld Blue Card at the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian - follow the links if you are in paid or unpaid work with children. Your corps officer will complete part of the form and it is processed through the corps or centre. Blue Cards have to be renewed every three years and the Commission sends a reminder letter several weeks before the expiry date.

New South Wales
This is the link to the home page for the NSW Working With Children Check. Paid employees working in child related employment complete the Applicant Declaration and Consent Form and send it to the Professional Standards Office, PO Box A435, Sydney NSW 1235 or fax it to 02 9266 9544. Unpaid ministry workers complete the Volunteer/Student Worker Declaration and the corps keeps a copy of this signed form with the children's/youth workers other screening records. This does not need to be renewed while the person is in any corps child related role.

The ACT
It is expected that in late 2011 there will be a Working With Vulnerable Persons check. As checks are not mandatory YET in the ACT, individual centre policies vary in terms of who is checked, what is checked, how often checks are conducted and what information will lead to an exclusionary decision.
Until the legislation is rolled out, The Salvation Army requires all unpaid children's and youth ministry workers to complete the NSW Volunteer/Student Worker Declaration and the corps keep a copy of this signed form with the children's/youth workers other screening records.
