Booth College is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). As an RTO, Booth College has met quality assurance standards and undertakes continuous improvement. Students with vocational qualifications from Booth College are entitled to credit transfer in relevant courses to other Registered Training Organisations.


Hospitality - SIT20207

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of activities and functions requiring basic operational knowledge and limited practical skills in a defined context. Work would be undertaken in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. Individuals may work with some autonomy or in a team but usually under close supervision.

Horticulture

Designed specifically for those with an interest in gardening, landscaping and working outdoors. Many people have turned their love of gardening into a career in horticulture - garden maintenance or retail. This course gives those starting out in the horticulture industry the entry-level skills they need to find work in the trade. You'll learn a mix of horticultural and retail skills - identifying plants and soil types, potting and pruning, irrigation, customer service and communication.

Retail

This course covers a wide range of retail duties, which include communication with colleagues and customers, point of sale procedures, merchandising, sales and marketing techniques and stock control. Training will also include on the job training at The Salvation Army retail outlets.

Furniture Making

An opportunity to experience the processes involved in manufacturing, designing and restoring furniture in a state of the workshop. Learn to safely use high tech machinery, hand and power tools, construct and fabricate furniture and prepare surfaces for finishing.

Business

Hands on training in simulated office and real office environments which includes producing word processed documents, spreadsheets, communication in the workplace and preparing financial documents. Ideal for those looking for a change in career or entering the Office Administration sector.

Facilities

Booth College has excellent facilities for vocational training.

These include:

  • An industry-standard computing laboratory including digital video and still cameras, animation software, digital projector, film editing, web software.
  • Retail facilities including check-out facilities and training office.
  • Fully equipped workshop for building and construction, including wet area for tiling and bricklaying tuition.
  • Fully equipped kitchen with cafe area, preparing meals for over 200 people.
  • Fully networked computer laboratories with wide range software applications.
  • A community Garden and Nursery in the college grounds. Bush Tucker area for native vegetation growth and use.
  • Indoor heated pool available for training or public use, with Learn to Swim lessons available.
  • Bicycle restoration area ideal for maintaining and assembling bicycles
  • Vocational trainers maintain strong links with industry and ensure that students have opportunities to extend their learning through excursions and training at outside providers and through vocational placements.
