Online Virtual Classroom Session Times & Requirements (published 10-06-11)

Dates and times for Virtual Classroom sessions (distance education) are now available for most subjects, on the Semester 2 subject information page. Students are reminded that attendance at ALL ofthese sessions is an attendance requirement for successful completion of the course.

Our Virtual Classroom system is web-based, so students do not require any special software to access them. The minimum requirements are:

  • Adobe Flash Player & Adobe Reader (most current version)
  • broadband internet connection
  • webcam, earphones and mic (integrated webcam and mic is acceptable)

Student Resources (published 05-08-2010)

A number of helpful resources for Distance/Online students are now available on the STUDENT RESOURCES page, including:

  • a guide to the Online Discussion Forums
  • Hints & Tips email #1

Online Study Resources - (published 19-07-2010)

Distance Education students are advised that all study resources (apart from required textbooks) are provided electronically via download. This is managed by our new Learning Management System, called Connect Pro.

Students should have received log-in details for this system on the first day of semester.  Access to and tracking of all learning resources and requirements are available by logging into Connect Pro and using the 'My Training' tab to view courses currently enrolled in.

Same-Time Online Discussion Sessions (published 08-02-2010)

Some Distance Education subjects will offer 'real-time' online class sessions. Details of these sessions, and negotiable session times, will be communicated to students in the first week of semester. Whilst not compulsory, these discussion sessions are highly recommended for all students, as they will provide you with the opportunity to meet and interact with your lecturer and other students in your class.

For online same-time discussions students will require internet access and flash player (above version 8). A microphone and webcam are also recommended.

Assessment Task Readers (published 15-02-2010)

In addition tothe other Guidelines and Help for Assessment Tasks available on the Student Resources page, online students should note the following:

Essay Readers or other assessment task reference material provided by the lecturer is provided for the purpose of assisting you with your preparation for assessment work, and to minimise the disadvantage of geographical location for many distance students when trying to source academic biblical and theological study material.

It is not intended that your assessment work be based solely on the readings in your reader. It is expected that you will refer to a number of other sources in your work.

The number of sources referred to in your essays (and listed in your bibliography) should be at least

  • 6 for Diploma level students
  • 8-10 for Bachelor level students
  • 10-12 for Post Graduate students

and may include books, journals, articles, dialogues and (academic) web sources.

Distance students are reminded that they can also access the Booth College library catalogue online and borrow books by contacting the librarian.
