This unit is designed to develop the student‘s knowledge and experience of pastoral care ministry, providing opportunities for personal development and insight into appropriate interventions for specific ministry situations. It is intended that this unit will expand the student‘s capacity to reflect theologically on their response to more complex pastoral situations.

The Meaning of Scripture Mondays, 9:15am-12:45pm

This subject is an introduction to biblical interpretation, focusing particularly the relationship between exegesis and hermeneutics. It introduces students to a variety of interpretive methodologies used to examine the text, enabling them to work through the maze of complexities of transference to an appropriate contemporary application of the text.

This course unit is designed to provide students with an understanding of the biblical basis and the historical and modern formulations of the person and work of Jesus Christ, and to explore these in the light of contemporary Christian life and thought.

Doctrine of Sanctification – Biblical Perspectives* EVENING CLASS - Wednesdays, 7pm-9pm

This course unit seeks to enable students within the Wesleyan tradition to interpret and integrate the biblical material on the doctrine of sanctification for personal reflection or application in their ministry setting.

This course unit examines the literary forms and theological content of the New Testament Literature associated with John, with due consideration of their historical, cultural and religious settings/contexts.

Introduction to World Mission day or night class - to be confirmed
(MD100/MS100)  classes commence in week 1 of semester 2
 
This course unit provides students with an introduction to the biblical, cultural, historical, and strategic aspects of mission. It will provide students with the data to assess the past, present, and future of Christian mission alerting them to the challenges and prospects of communicating the gospel message and enlisting local churches in this task.

Supervised Ministry 1^*

This course unit incorporates learning experiences at a practical level as well as giving opportunity to reflect on both the practice and theory of ministry. This reflection occurs with an appointed supervisor as well as the formal classroom situation. The mentoring would be with experienced ordained pastors or those in recognised specialist ministries.

This course unit aims to introduce students to the critical study of the New Testament, its literary forms, historical and cultural contexts and theological themes. It seeks to provide a solid foundation for further biblical and theological study.

 

History of the Wesleyan Holiness Movement*

This course unit aims to examine the origins, history, growth and influences of the Wesleyan-Holiness Movement, and its importance as a continuing religious tradition.

Wesleyan Theology*

This course unit allows students to study at depth the doctrines which were articulated during and following the 18th century Wesleyan awakening. It will introduce students to the antecedents of Wesleyan theology, its setting within ecumenical theological thought, and its developments to the present.

This subject seeks to establish a theology of preaching that provides an adequate theoretical foundation to preaching practice and introduces students to the foundational skills needed for the preparation and delivery of expository sermons.

This subject allows students to explore in detail the history of The Salvation Army, its doctrine, practice, and worship, from its inception to the present.

The subjects listed above (extensive & intensive) are available for enrolment by Distance Students, via live stream from the classroom - subject to sufficient enrolments. Class dates and times are as per the list above.

Online students will be required to be logged on and attend the full duration of every class, with the same attendance requirements as in-class students. Broadband internet is recommended and the use of a webcam, mic and earphones will be required.

Distance Education Courses

Distance students enrolling in any of the following subjects are also welcome to attend any of the in-class sessions listed for their subject for the weekly, intensive and extensive version of the class.

Distance Education subjects will require private coursework & study, as well as attendance at 5 compulsory online virtual classroom sessions (dates to be confirmed in May).

A brief one hour Online Orientation Session is scheduled for Monday 16th July OR Tuesday 17th July (7:30-8:30pm AEST) for Distance Education students. Attendance at one of these sessions is compulsory for all new distance students and for students who have never used our Learning Management System or Virtual Classrooms. Details of this will be sent to all students with their Confirmation of Enrolment email.
