Leadership reveals itself.

Being a leader is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are one, then you aren’t.
I have spent way too much time with student leaders hungry for the title, and frankly am a little sick of meeting someone and saying “nice to meet you John” only to hear “that’s Pastor John, thank you” (or Major / Cpt etc etc).
People don’t follow someone just because they jump up and say “I am the boss”. They follow because they are inspired, motivated and see something in that person that they want replicated in their own life. Take a look around you and you will know if you are leading. As you get on with your life are there people following you? That’s the true mark of leadership. If no one is following your example drop the title and work on living a life worth following.

Yep this is very true, so often we over-spiritualise leadership and associate with title, position, age and ‘maturity’.
In reality though I find that leadership is a far more organic and earthy substance, earned by putting runs on the board, living a life of character and humility, and loving, sharing with and serving others.
Let us be leaders are known for our fruit, not for our title or position!
Really good blog Shandri! You have some great thoughts…and a gift for writing readable blogs!
This is a really great blog! I agree it’s not the title you hold but what your really like underneath.Lets face it you can only fake it for so long!
Just read a proverb that made me think of this blog. It says:
“He who thinketh he leadeth and hath no one following him is only taking a walk.”
