The Salvation Army Bellarine Peninsula is proud to announce they will be commencing a Just Brass Music program at the St Leonards Primary School in late February.
Under the leadership of Just Brass Director John Collinson from The Salvation Army South Barwon Corps, the Salvos will be starting a brass band for any interested students at the school.
"The aim of the program is to help students explore their creative side, build self confidence and teach kids to work as a team" says John Collinson. "We run this program in other primary schools, including Whittington Primary, and already we are seeing amazing results." Some of these results have included behaviour and literacy improvement, and a desire to learn.
"Because of our faith in Jesus Christ The Salvation Army is passionate about going into community and getting their hands dirty by doing whatever it takes to support and make this world a better place. We believe that this music program, along with other literacy and parent support groups starting up in the area will make a significant difference to the St Leonards community," says Lt Peter Hobbs.
"The Salvos have already done so much for our school and local community and the potential from this additional service to our school curriculum is so exciting, and we thank them for their tireless support", says St Leonards Primary School Principal Natalie Jenkins.
If anyone has any brass instruments in their cupboards or brass skills they would like to donate to this life changing initiative then please contact Lt Peter Hobbs on 0439 490 658 or email us.
