Each year The Salvation Army provides assistance to over one million Australians - to continue providing high quality community services, we need your help.

This year, we'd once again like to invite you to help us make a difference by supporting our Red Shield Appeal. Let's work together to make Australia a better place - because we're all in this together!

ANZAC Day SAES Event

Our SAES (Salvation Army Emergency Services) Team will be at the ANZAC Day Dawn service providing Tea Coffee and Biscuits to those who come to remember our fallen soldiers. Our team then moves to ANZAC Parade where we fire up the hotplates to serve morning tea and lunch for the public who attend the morning march. We look forward to seeing you there.

SAES BBQ at SkyFire

This year we are doing it again.. and we are doubling our efforts. 2 teams (one on each side of the lake) will be cooking up some great food for the Skyfire Volunteers and the Public. We need your help, if you are interested in helping us cook on the day please contact Angela, Roz or Michael. It will be a big day, but it will be awesome!

We will meet at the Church (Belconnen Salvos) at 2pm so we can combine vehicles and not have to worry about parking issues. You do not have to be an accredited SAES member to participate. We are hoping to raise some much needed funds to support the work of the Salvation Army in the Belconnen community.

The philosophy of Food Revelation is simple;

We believe that food and the culinary arts are a gift from God. We believe that the opportunity learn and share knowledge of food and the culinary arts should be made available to all members of the community and not restricted only to those who can afford to pay the lofty fees of private cooking schools. Food Revelation aims to teach members of the Belconnen community a skill for life that they can share with their family and friends in a safe, relaxed and supportive environment. Food Revelation aims to build kitchen confidence in less experienced cooks and hone the culinary skills of the more experienced. Food Revelation wants the Belconnen community to be cooking better and eating better. Above all, Food Revelation believes that cooking should be a fun and rewarding experience to be enjoyed.

A Food Revelation "class" consists of 3 segments learn, create, enjoy

1. Learn: class participants will learn about the history and cultural significance of the dish they will be preparing and the basic techniques to prepare the dish.

2. Create: class participants will create the chosen dish under the instruction of a "teacher"

3. Enjoy: class participants will sit and enjoy their culinary creations in a shared fellowship meal.

Food Revelation is held once a month on the second Tuesday of the month at our Church hall on Ross Smith Crescent in Scullin, Belconnen ACT 2615. All equipment and ingredients are provided by us.
Cost per person $5 and bookings are essential.

Each month the ladies from the Belconnen Salvos get together for a Girls Night Out. One month we go out for a group dinner, the next month we have a girls night in at our worship centre in Scullin.

We love when extra people join us and invite any ladies that want to take a little timeout for themselves to join us.

The cost varies each month on the activites. Please call the office on 6254 8901 for the latest information.

CAUTION: You may wake-up with a sore tummy the next morning due to the excessive amounts of laughter!

The Salvation Army Belconnen is getting in the spirit of Australia Day and engaging with the community at The Dickson Tradies Australia Day BBQ.

The event is not only a opportunity to create relationships with our community but also dust of skills used in Salvation Army Emergency Services Opperations.

The BBQ is being run on Australia Day at the Dickson Tradies Club and includes live entertainment by Canberra's Family Band "The Tullys"

We are looking forward to a group of Corps people (a Mission Team) from Bonnells Bay Corps (near Newcastle) coming to visit our Corps for a weekend in July.

DAY OF PRAYER AND FASTING

What a wonderful weekend Uprising was. The verse from Ephesians 3:20 was prayed and quoted so often in the weeks leading up to Uprising and over that weekend –

‘Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…’ And God answered our prayers. God did immeasurably more than we imagined.

A new vision was revealed and grasped by all who attended. But it doesn’t stop there. We need to keep doing our part in seeing this new vision come to fruition. This will happen in various ways, however, the most important thing we need to keep doing is praying.

A Day of Prayer and Fasting has been set aside each month until the end of the year where our prayers will focus specifically on our Seven Mission Priorities. We are going to Pray and Fast. Who can pray? The short answer is everyone! And the long answer is the same – everyone!

How will we pray and for what will we pray? It is entirely up to you how you will pray. Use whatever methods or means that is helpful to you. We will be praying for the Mission Priorities. Each Mission Priority has a group of people who have accepted the responsibility to work together to achieve the desired outcomes of the priorities.

Each month these groups will provide specific prayer requests to guide our prayers. You are asked to use those prayer requests, not only during the day of prayer, but also through the month until the next day of prayer…or better still, until that request has been answered.

What is fasting and why fast? Prayer and fasting is defined as voluntarily going without food in order to focus on prayer and fellowship with God www.allaboutprayer.org. This can be for one meal, for one day or longer. Fasting: emphasises our sincerity is a sign of lamenting before God helps us orient ourselves better towards God makes us sensitive to need turns our focus away from ourselves and our own needs realigns us with God and strengthens our faith.

Please commit to spend these days waiting on God.

Remember, now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. The first day will be Friday 26 June.
