Restoring Memories
Restoring Memories is an initiative of The Salvation Army, inspired by a desire to support the victims of the recent Victorian bushfires.
Many families have experienced the utter devastation of losing their homes and their communities and they have lost (in some cases) almost or every tangible memory item they own, including photo albums, videos and films and other precious mementos of their lives, families and life events.
Restoring Memories aims to create and provide these families with a handmade scrapbooked photo album, complete and ready to have photos added to it by them once they are able to get copies from their own family and friends. It is our desire to provide something that is "almost finished" but which they can complete themselves, by selecting and adding their own photos, page titles and journaling to the pages, as part of the healing and restoring process.
This is an opportunity for our many scrapbooking and craft groups to make a physical contribution to the ongoing support we are offering to these families, an opportunity to reach out in love in a practical way.
You are invited to join with us in creating some pages for these albums. A number of scrapbooking groups throughout NSW and QLD meet regularly - contact us to find your nearest group!
The team in Melbourne have now confirmed that they are ready to begin receiving albums, so if you have completes pages or albums ready, please forward them to us as soon as possible.
We have received over 250 layouts to date, which is wonderful! It takes 20 layouts to fill an album for one family - we would love to touch as many families as possible so all contributions are appreciated. Photos of some of the layouts received to date can be seen below.
Why not set aside one day or evening with your scrapbooking friends to create an album (20 coordinating layouts) for Restoring Memories?
We are also looking for people willing to scrapbook photos provided by (or on behalf of) the families affected by the bushfires. If you would be interested in completing an album of this type, please contact us.
