Positional Statements

Contact the Moral & Social Issues Council to enquire on (02) 9266 9549.

The Salvation Army Positional Statements define Christian ethics within the context of our rapidly changing social environment.

Salvation Army teaching is based on the Bible and looks to the example of the Lord Jesus Christ; nevertheless we recognise that Scripture does not supply detailed and clear-cut rules of behaviour for every situation.

In a world that presents us with complex moral issues, we try to bring our intelligence and experience to bear upon its problems, in dependence upon the guidance of God by His Holy Spirit.

Issues covered by Positional Statements include:

  • Abortion
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Alcohol & Other Drugs
  • Capital Punishment
  • Conscientious Objectors
  • Domestic Violence
  • The Environment
  • Euthanasia
  • Gambling
  • Healing
  • Human Sexuality (Marriage & Family Life, Sexuality & Singleness, Homosexuality)
  • Multi-Faith Events
  • Pornography
  • The Sacraments
  • Social Justice
  • Sunday Observance
  • Surrogacy
  • Work
  • Asylum Seekers and Refugees
