Sydney comes together for special Christmas lunch

23 December 2015

The Salvation Army Sydney Streetlevel Mission, in conjunction with the Australian Technology Park, will host one of Sydney’s biggest Christmas Day lunch events for over 1,200 people who would otherwise be alone or without a “yummy” Christmas lunch. .

The event – held at the Australian Technology Park – will include a two course traditional Christmas lunch feast, live music and an area for kids and youth which will include a jumping castle, hoola hoops, board games and puzzles, fairy floss machine and most importantly photos with Santa.

Salvation Army Sydney Streetlevel Mission Team Leader, Mitchell Evans, says Christmas is a special time of the year and no one should have to go it alone and miss out.

“We encourage all people who are alone or perhaps can’t afford to do Christmas Day lunch to come along and enjoy the afternoon in community with us,” Mr Evans said.

“No one should be alone on Christmas Day.”

The Salvation Army Sydney Streetlevel Christmas Day lunch has been running for 17 years and is supported by the Australian Technology Park, NSW Farmers Association, Australian Pork Limited, BE Campbell, Foodbank NSW & ACT, Payce and Alliance Catering as well as over 150 volunteers on the day.

“We really could not hold this event without the support of our corporate partners as well as the volunteers who come along beforehand to help set up, help on the day and also clean up after the event,” Mr Evans said.

“We’re so humbled by their generosity and their Christmas spirit… after all, Christmas is all about giving.”

Sydney Steetlevel Mission is a community hub that is actively involved in supporting Sydney’s most disadvantaged and marginalised people through meal programs, counselling services, financial support and facility use.
