Prayer Letter - March 2009

Dear Prayer Partners:

At our recent Captivated Convention (formerly Women’s Bible Convention), the major theme was prayer -  listening to God, journaling, seeking direction through His word, pathways to connect with God, and creative ways to lead prayer in worship.  We also had a Prayer Concert, which was likened to a great orchestra which featured solos (praying alone) duets (praying with one other), trios (groups of threes) and as an orchestra (all together and all at once).  The Convention underscored our priority to be a territory marked by prayer.

Salvationists across the territory are still contacting us to ask to be included in our Thursday morning prayer meeting. Since writing to you last, I have heard that Tuggeranong, Menai, Hannam Vale are also meeting in these early morning hours to pray. Recently I was at the Newcastle Officers’ Fellowship and they gave such an emphasis to prayer.  Many joined together on the Thursday, to intercede for our territory.  Then later in the morning, a whole session was given to praying the Priorities.  Sandra Holland led a powerful prayer meeting with a special focus on children and youth. The tide of prayer is flowing across AUE.

This morning in our THQ prayer meeting, I referred to Luke 15 and the comment Jesus made after telling about the finding of the lost coin and the lost sheep. He said there would be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents.  Jesus was unveiling the seeking heart of His Father and reminding us again in these parables of his own mission. To have His heart is to seek the lost. Maybe we need a Luke 15 Year in our territory.  Are we praying for ex-Salvationists who once were solidly engaged in mission and now do not even attend any church, having drifted away from the Lord?   Perhaps some are our own family members.  Maybe we need to go over the corps rolls, make a list of those we know, old and young, and pray for them by name, asking the Lord for direction on how to connect them once again to Him and to our fellowship.

I don’t know how you spend your half-hour.  Maybe you pray for all the 7 Mission Priorities and seek God’s face so that we will be One Army with One Mission.  Or maybe you emphasize one or two of the priorities, as we, who meet here at THQ tend to do. Perhaps you focus on specific corps, centres, or leaders.  Whatever you do, please keep it up.  We need to be an Army on its knees, if we are to stand firm and move forward with missional hearts.

Thank you for your consistency in prayer.  I look forward to the day when I write you to say that we have 1000 Salvationists in our Thursday morning prayer meeting.  Not today but someday!

God bless you richly.
